Aneuploidy Screening of Embryos

Patients who have suffered repeated miscarriages and implantation failures or who are concerned about their children suffering from genetic disorders can now take advantage of embryo screening to help to increase the chances of a successful and healthy pregnancy by trying to select only normal embryos for implantation.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

Many couples who carry hereditary disorders elect for prenatal diagnostic to screen the health of the foetus during early pregnancy. Alternatively, PGD now gives some couples the opportunity for diagnosis before embarking on a pregnancy. After undergoing IVF, cells can be removed from the eight cell embryo. The cells can be assessed for a specific genetic disorder before the embryo is transferred to the uterus. More than 40 genetic conditions can be detected this way.

PGD and Tissue Typing

Due to CARE's pioneering work in this area, the Regulatory Authority has now approved the use of IVF and PGD to conceive a child that is of a specific tissue type in order to help a sick sibling. CARE was the first clinic to introduce this in the UK

*Whilst we provide all of these treatments within the CARE organisation, some procedures require highly specialised facilities which are only available at certain CARE centres.
